“We should not stop, education must continue.” previous DepEd secretary Leonor Briones said. The Schools Division Office (SDO) Pampanga implemented “Rasa-Basa,” for better performance of the students.

Rasa-Basa means “Reading Across Subject Areas for Better Academic Students Achievement,” the students’ reading comprehension will boost and they won’t have any problems when reading, a book for example. A learning gap was reported and the Department of Education (DepEd), quickly made a plan to eradicate the difficulties in reading of the learners.

The Rasa-Basa is making the students read in all of their subjects, like when answering a question, they should read it first before answering. This will improve their 5 micro skills, DepEd wants all schools to use the program, so that the students will be 21st century competitive.

Computer Based Assessment (CBA) is also implemented, this makes the students from Grade 9-12 use desktop, laptop, mobile phones when answering. According to Dr. Cherry G. Vinluan, Education Program Supervisor I, this strengthens the ethical values of the students, and the technology in this world is moving fast.

The Philippines ranked least in the “PISA 2018 Exam,” it is also one of the reasons why the Rasa-Basa and CBA is being implemented. After it was applied, 80% went to 60%. It shows that the program works and should be continued. Research from UNESCO said that it raised to 98% when the programs were implemented, with that, 3 B’s is also implemented, “Bawat Bata Bumabasa.”

These programs will help the country to be one of the best in the coming PISA exams worldwide, they aim to have a better achievement in academic. Reading, writing, and speaking will be improved. It will be hard at first, but it’s for the betterment of the students and the country.
