Marquez nipped a 2-0 triumph against Gomez

Izzy Marquez, a Grade 11 student from section Elijah asserted supremacy over Azantua Gomez, a Grade 10 student from Aristotle in the Badminton Exhibition Game as she conquered a 15-21 set point today, April 27, 2023 held at San Jose Malino High School, Mexico.


During the 1st set, Azantua revealed her hot smashes on the start of a nerve wrecking encounter as she lead the game by 2-point lead but eventually made huge flaws that let Izzy took the privileged to swap the lead. Both competitors interspersed sharp hits as Izzy hammered a 3-point lead over Azantua who exerted crafty placings but still on second best. As Azantua consecutively made huge flaws, Izzy took the opportunity to widen the gap resulting the 1st set point to 9-11.


Throughout the 2nd set, Izzy started to utilize her tricky strategies that made Azantua played under extreme pressure. As the game continued, Izzy showed her tremendous smashes that ends up as a fault, giving Azantua a chance to show her powerful hits but also ends up as a fault. Izzy displayed her clear kill hits while Azantua demonstrated her magnificent blows but still find it hard to conquer Izzy, wrapping up the final set to 15-21.


Azantua stated that there was no hard feelings after the exhibition game, “parang normal game lang saamin, masaya naman.” She also explained the cause of her loss, “Mahangin kasi at naguguluhan ako sa lines ng court pati mga serves ko, outsides, and mga sabit.” The conqueror for the exhibition game was also interviewed. Izzy was asked about what advices she can give to young aspiring badmintonist that are having a hard time practicing, she said, “Kung gusto niyo talaga mag-laro ng badminton, ‘wag kayong matakot. Sa practice kasi mahirap, wala naman madali sa mga practice eh, kaya mag-patuloy lang.”
